Artist Tim Layzell with his highly stylised car scenes
YW interviews artist Tim Layzell at the Goodwood Festival of Speed
Meet top notch artist Tim Layzell, a star in the automotive art world. He has been featured extensively in the magazines and papers, and so we, here at YW thought he could do with a bit of web exposure for good measure.
It was while wandering through the numerous trade stands at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed that we stopped dead in our tracks, in awe of the gripping images hung on Tim’s stand. A fleeting memory of having seen Tim’s work on an Octane Mag cover and maybe also a poster or two, had garnered a Pavlovian reaction in the mind. So this is the guy responsible for the striking pop-artesque 60′s racing designs that are so distinctive and recognisable. Think, detail and accuracy of a Tintin illustration meets punch of a Hockney pop-art painting and you understand the depth of talent and mastery of style and perspective that this artist wields, making his images utterly compelling. Swivel round and you are presented with Tim’s, photorealistic, fantastically detailed second style; an enduring mix of flair, accuracy and emotion – this guy’s got talent!

You can hear it now: you work for a company making slightly invisible products usually topped out with another manufacturer’s glossy body and want to shout about it. The boss says “make something wild and attention grabbing”. The result is baffling and downright stupid, but put it on display and….the public will love it, won’t they?
Ferrari 599 GTO at 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed
Yellowwheels presents a supercar gallery from the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed
Goodwood FoS is a fabulous feast of motoring extravaganza, with vehicles of all ages, sizes and types wanging it up the Earl of March’s garden path. Modern F1 cars mix with historic Le Mans cars, motocycles, legendary Grand Prix cars and beautiful, sometimes bizarre classics. But we were drawn to the fleet of immaculate and outrageous supercars assembled for the Sunday Times Supercar run up the hill. Many of these have not been seen in action before; just glimpsed in motorshow reports and the spreads of the glossies.
Ferrari 16M Scuderia convertible, and has the credit crunch crashed supercar sales?
Not if these two guys are typical. Cliff Fox, on left, just took delivery of his Ferrari convertible 16M Scuderia, swopping his coupe for it, and Nick Fake, right, has ordered a yellow 16M just like the one he is sitting in, to go alongside the coupe that’s already part of his collection.

We really have to give the thumbs up to guys like these, the car landscape would be rather tedious without buyers of interesting or spectacular cars spending their spondooniks. Think how much less ravishing the British Isles would be without their stately homes and castles. If you think this is elitist, just think how many people from all walks of life stump up for National Trust membership to support their upkeep every year. We just enjoy seeing supercars out on the road, full stop!
Here’s a fun ride the public can get. Just queue up at the off-road section of the event, pay £20 and you get a full tilt ride in a “Paris-Dakar” type Range Rover Sport!
Lotus’s racing colours have always been green with lashings of yellow. On that basis, and a soft spot for all things Lotus here’s a pic of of Jim Clark’s Indianpolis 500 winning car. In 1965 he became the first non-american to win for 50 or so years. This very car will be at this years 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Number 82 resides in the Henry Ford Museum and after attending the festival will be off for some restoration work in Norfolk with the intention of turning it into a running classic
