Luckily the car manufacturers woke up to the fact that their products were gaining girth and weight and have devoted massive energy to efficiency gains with engines, hybrids, aerodynamics. We can probably thank fuel prices, emissions legislation and eco-issues for forcing them in this direction. Shedding weight brings so many benefits beyond acceleration and handling, as Neill explained, that we can look forward to ever more nimble cars in the future. Bring them on!
