coffee on the go in yer JCB

How about a digger that makes the tea? JCB do one!

When we featured a JCB loader to ferry a crazy guy around Trafalgar Square last year, we thought to ourselves “what’s really missing is some in flight coffee.” Well, not really…But, lo and behold, JCB must have been listening and have spawned the world’s first digger with an on board coffee maker. Spooky timing, as we’ve just kitted out the YW office with a Nespresso machine. We’re not up to speed with how JCB’s machine works, but it produces hot water and presumably sports some kind of filter arrangement for the coffee brewing. If your tipple is tea then just use the hot water and a good old bag of burnt leaves.

Cosworth F1 engine for Bloodhound SSC

Cosworth team up with Bloodhound SSC to provide pumping power and electronics to the supersonic record car

You’d wonder what on earth use a formula 1 engine would be in a jet propelled car? Cosworth’s 750 bhp engine can power a lightweight F1 car to 200mph, but 1000mph? OK, well the answer is that Bloodhound needs hydraulic power and a massive amount of fuel pumped into its rocket motors and that pump needs to handle a whopping 40 seconds of 3-4g acceleration. That’s what F1 cars experience regularly, but for only a few seconds….Cosworth are confident it can handle it and will supply data electronics to match. Here’s the official line:

The Racing Bug circuit ready for the race start

YW gets the Racing Bug at MPH Show

Heading out to the MPH show in Birmingham this month ? YW says search out the Racing Bug stand for a little bit of racing fun ( Stand MP46A ). Remember your Scalextric set ? Fun, but with only two lanes and a fixed track, there’s only so much skill involved: sort your throttle action and the rest is easy. Remember your first radio controlled car ? You could go in any direction, only you never had the discipline to stick to a predefined course. The Racing Bug has the best features of both combined with straight-forward controls. A fixed, very clear track, steering wheel and pedals to control your car, and the excitement of racing eleven other hopefuls leads to a sensational experience. With a little practice you can transport your mind to the miniature Ferrari that bears your number and experience the adrenaline of racing with zero risk to life and limb.

Auto Regalia USB Mini & Lamborghini Murcielago

We pit Lambo’s Murcielago against Mini Cooper in this USB giant test!

After reading our Motormouse review back last autumn, motor gizmo specialist Auto Regalia were keen for us to try other products. “How about a review of a USB stick” they asked? Seriously underwhelmed by the prospect – I mean, a stick is a stick, it’s just that some are made larger than others, right? “Hey, these ones are die-cast metal, beautifully detailed miniatures” they retorted. “We can even supply them in yellow!” Well that clinched it, and behold, we have a brace of “HotWheels” with capacities only juggernauts could muster to play with (4 GB in this case ).

Auto Regalia USB Mini Cooper - wheels turn

Whipped out of their packaging, the weight and solidity of the castings were immediately apparent. No flimsy, snap-fit-plastic, 5-second wonder, but finely detailed models of the real thing. Even the Mini’s taillight cluster surrounds are chrome painted. Put the two models together and the major difference is the huge rear protuberance on the 1:72 scale Lambo; like someone bolted a fridge on the back. Unlike the Mini, the USB connector is not retractable and ruins the lines of the car’s backend. Underneath the Mini a press-and-slide catch neatly stows the USB connector when not in use.

Porsche 911 with Aerokit Cup package fitted

Look hunky with Porsche’s Official Aerokit Cup bodykit

You know when you were young and got your first car? Your immediate hankering was for something faster and hornier than your insurance bill would permit. So instead you fitted your puny-mobile with wide arches, hunky tyres and spoilers. This turned your bland-mobile into a shed, that you’d look back at with nostalgia but acute embarrassment later in life. Now, you’re a mature 30 or 40 something adult, you own a tasty sportscar but remember the fun of modding your motor. Now is the time to take your Porsche 911 back to the dealer to have Porsche’s new Aerokit Cup package retrofitted so that you’ll look the part turning up in the race paddock.

Porsche have released a body kit to make your 911 look like the racers that compete in the Mobil 1 Supercup. This translates to new front chin spoiler and rear fixed wing. You also have the option of fitting paddle shifts a-la-911-Turbo. But to take you back to the 60′s – 70′s …. you can also get a five-spoke retro alloy. All this is ludicrously expensive of course, but hey, you knew that already when the words Official Porsche were uttered. You could “save” money by ordering your 911 with these mods factory fitted too.
