Murray Walker Scrapbook

Murray Walker Scrapbook

From 1949 to the early naughties Murray Walker really has been the true legend of motor racing commentary. We caught up with him at the Silverstone Classic race meeting last weekend, where he was signing and selling his current book “Murray Walker Scrapbook”. Newer still is Stirling Moss’s version “Stirling Moss Scrapbook” from Porter Press. Stirling had already left, but we got a 60 second voxpop from Murray, describing his book, what’s in it, and a potted history of his career. He really is a true pro and having been told he had 60 seconds stopped, unrehearsed with just a few seconds to go. Listen to him here by clicking on the mp3 link below. It’s so great to hear his unique voice and style again. Thank you Murray!

KTM X-bow gets powerhike

KTM X-Bow

KTM X-Bow

The KTM X-Bow is our kind of car. Small, light and powerful; perfect ingredients for some fun track action or a fairweather country blast. So if we told you a power boost upgrade was available you’d hardly object! Turning the standard 240bhp into 300bhp in a flyweight projectile is going to give you some serious surge. Whether you’d pay the £5,300 price tag to shave the 0-60mph time from an already impressive 3.9 secs down to 3.5 secs is another matter. Read on for the official press release

Ian Cook paints with radio controlled cars

What do you do with a radio controlled car on boxing day? You’ve lapped the living room, scared the cat, bored the girlfriend with your J-turns; It’s time to get creative. Place a large canvas on the floor, pick your favourite car image, dowse paint liberally, and spin that R/C car’s wheels like there’s no tomorrow.

Lamborghini Gallardo: with added stripes!

Lamborghini Gallardo LP-550-2 Valentino Balboni

What’s going on lately? All sorts of cars are appearing with nose to rump stripes of various colours and iterations. Is this a cheap way of creating some glitz and media coverage for the price of a pot of paint? Or is there a genuine fashion thing going on? We haven’t seen the like since BMW’s Mini waved the union jack on it’s roof or chequered it. Smart gave us some funky designs for a while before going all mainstream with it’s panels. Even the humble Fiat 500 sports special stripes.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 500-2 Valentino Balboni

OK so this hot Lambo is endorsed and refined by Lamborghini’s longtime test driver Valentino Balboni, but is this just marketing spin? Judge for yourself. We certainly can’t resist any excuse to flaunt some drop dead goregeous pix on our yellowwheels pages.
But wait: look beyond the paintwork, and be prepared to gasp!

Elon Musk and Talulah Riley

Elon Musk and Talulah Riley

Anatomy of a press launch: designed to attract the attention of the world’s press and propagate info about the car or product that’s new, launches are a strange mixture of party, PR people, company bosses, and maybe the odd celebrity. Yellowwheels attends Tesla London press launch of it’s first european showroom BUT has some questions for it’s correspondent

Q: What’s a press launch?
A: Party, celebs, papps, champpers, glitz, glam, journos, snappers, PRs, CEOs

Q: Errrr, what ?!!!
A: You know: You have something to shout about, so you invite the press and some famous people, ply them with drink, dazzle them with lights and hope the event produces enough fizz to get reported around the world.
